SO MANY QUESTIONS

Let’s Try to Answer Some of Your Questions

WHAT IS IOR?

IOR (It's Okay Recovery) is a place to get positive alternatives for destructive behaviors.  We focus on addiction AND mental illness because they often go hand in hand.

IS IOR A NEW PROGRAM?

No!  We are not a substitute for 12 step programs, recovery houses, therapies, counseling or any other recovery you might be rocking! In fact we hope to be an addition!  Helping you to create a repertoire of recovery tools.

IS IOR A PROFESSIONAL SERVICE?

No! If you have an emergency, we ask that you PLEASE call 9-1-1.  You can also call BC's 8-1-1, to talk to a nurse for medical questions.
Here, we don't care much for credentials.  We don't even care if you have clean time! (We know you'll get there! We've heard it took some 1-30+ YEARS. So, we don't stress!  We just try to do a lil' better, everyday). We're much more about experience! We are about sharing here. We want to to tell you about the things that worked for us or things we've found that we think may work for you!  We hope you do the same for us and our community because learning and growing is a non-stop process.

WHY DONATE?

IOR has BIG plans, but we could use your help!  IOR is already an official society, recognized by the BC government...but, we feel a Women's Clubhouse (why we became a society, instead of just a fb page/group) is much needed in Penticton.
Our main goal right now? A women's clubhouse (addiction resource centre)!  A place where women, girls and trans. can get resources to housing, jobs, free wifi and computer/printer access, a telephone and other essential items.  We hope women struggling will join us for 12 step/ SMART meetings, yoga, dance, meditations and whatever other recovery women want!  We hope to also have a women's swap 'n' trade rack! Where women can access and trade free, gently used clothing.  Another addition would be a bathroom with a shower and couches, blankets and pillows for sleep- just for emergencies.  Sometimes, we've heard, women's safe houses can fill up! We'd like to be a "yes", just in case you get a "no".
We've heard of women "making their own tampons" in Penticton, B.C.  Sorry, not approved! We hope to have some kind of "diva cups" to give out.  A "diva cup" is washable and reusable.  We hope these prevent infection and charges of theft (noone should HAVE to steal!).  Of course, we will also try to supply regular tampons, pads and condoms.
It will be a DRY clubhouse, but we don't care if you used, we just ask you don't bring drugs or alcohol into the clubhouse.  We need it to be a safe for EVERYONE.
We just want a FREE, judgement free, supportive, SAFE place where woman can go to recover.
